Dedham Savings Community Foundation Supports Blue Hill Observatory and Science Center, Inc.
The Dedham Savings Community Foundation has donated $5,000 to the Blue Hill Observatory and Science Center. The grant will be used to completely digitize, conserve, and create archival storage for handwritten record books which hold 135 years of climate records. Complete digitization will enhance the use of their data for researchers and scientists worldwide and also benefit their STEM educational programming which serves approximately 12,000 students per year.

The Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory, located at the top of a scenic mountain south of Boston, is a unique American institution. Founded in 1885 by Abbott Lawrence Rotch as a private scientific center for the study and measurement of the atmosphere. Today, the Observatory is a National Historic Landmark and remains committed to continuing its extensive, uninterrupted climate record with traditional methods and instruments.
ABOUT DEDHAM SAVINGS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
The Dedham Savings Community Foundation is a privately funded foundation created by Dedham Savings in 2000 to provide financial support to charitable organizations that serve disadvantaged populations within the Bank’s community reinvestment area. These communities include Dedham, Needham, Norwood, Sharon, South Boston, Walpole, Westwood and contiguous areas. Typical requests are received from schools, libraries, family service organizations and non-profit organizations. The Trustees of the Foundation accept grant requests from community organizations and make awards twice per year.
