Dedham Savings Community Foundation Supports Communities for People
The Dedham Savings Community Foundation has made a grant to Communities for People. Grant funds will be used to purchase home furnishings and sensory items to benefit at-risk youth participating in Boston-area residential programs. Various studies have shown that properly furnished living environments and those with items for sensory treatment have a positive impact on the mental, physical, and social health of youths who have experienced trauma. The at-risk youth in the Communities for People programs live at or below the federal poverty line and typically have a history of trauma, foster care system participation, emotional and behavioral dysregulation, and involvement with the Department of Children and Families, Department of Youth Services, and/or Department of Mental Health.
ABOUT COMMUNITIES FOR PEOPLE
Communities for People is a leader in community-based approaches to support children, youth and families in the state foster care system. They offer a wide range of impactful programs and services in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including family support and preservation, foster care and adoption support, and a variety of small residential and independent living programs for teens. Their mission is to achieve permanency, make lifelong connections within the community, and help develop independent living skills for youth and families.
ABOUT DEDHAM SAVINGS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
The Dedham Savings Community Foundation was formed by Dedham Savings for the purpose of funding requests from community organizations which provide services to the communities that they serve. These communities generally, but not exclusively, include Dedham, Needham, Norwood, Sharon, South Boston, Walpole, and Westwood. Typical requests are usually received from such organizations as schools, libraries, family service organizations and non-profit organizations. The Trustees of the Foundation will accept grant requests from community organizations and make awards twice a year.
