Dedham Savings Community Foundation Supports Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation

SouthWest Boston CDC Logo

The Dedham Savings Community Foundation has donated $17,350 to Southwest Boston Community Development Corp (SWBCDC) in Hyde Park.  The grant will be used toward renovations and upgrades to apartments housing low-to-moderate income tenants in a newly acquired property.  These monies will help to stabilize the construction at the new property and allow the tenants to stay in a market that, with increased real estate demands, has seen massive displacement of lower income tenants.

SWBCDC works to sustain a thriving, economically diverse community in Hyde Park, Roslindale, and more recently neighboring areas of Mattapan. SWBCDC develops and preserves affordable housing for low- and moderate-income people; prevents displacement of neighborhood residents, particularly elders and those of limited means; ensures access to good transit; preserves green spaces; and develops and empowers local leaders.

ABOUT DEDHAM SAVINGS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Dedham Savings Community Foundation is a privately funded foundation created by Dedham Savings in 2000 to provide financial support to charitable organizations that serve disadvantaged populations within the Bank’s community reinvestment area. These communities include Dedham, Needham, Norwood, Sharon, South Boston, Walpole, and Westwood and contiguous areas.  Typical requests are received from schools, libraries, family service organizations and non-profit organizations.  The Trustees of the Foundation accept grant requests from community organizations and make awards twice per year.
