Dedham Savings Community Foundation Supports The Theater Offensive

The Dedham Savings Community Foundation has donated $5,000 to The Theater Offensive in support of their capital campaign to build the Boylston Black Box, a 10,000 square-foot theater which will provide accessible space for artistic expression in service to the neighborhood.  The new venue will allow The Theater Offensive to expand its programming and presenting capacity, with much-needed space and resources. Once opened, the Black Box will be the only cultural institution in Massachusetts owned and operated by queer and trans people of color, and one of the few cultural institutions run by people of color in the state.

ABOUT THE THEATER OFFENSIVE

Founded in 1989, The Theater Offensive (TTO) of Boston was formed to create edgy art and theater festivals, and to bring well-known queer theater artists to Boston. TTO provides family, educational and youth-centered artistic and leadership programs, community-led artistic experiences, and people-powered civic engagements to cultivate a liberatory space for queer and trans people of color, empowering the community through arts and education.

ABOUT DEDHAM SAVINGS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Dedham Savings Community Foundation was formed by Dedham Savings for the purpose of funding requests from community organizations which provide services to the communities that they serve.  These communities generally, but not exclusively, include Dedham, Needham, Norwood, Sharon, South Boston, Walpole, and Westwood.  Typical requests are usually received from such organizations as schools, libraries, family service organizations and non-profit organizations.  The Trustees of the Foundation will accept grant requests from community organizations and make awards twice a year.

Organizations wishing to request funding from the Foundation may apply online at www.dedhamsavings.com/community.
