Dedham Savings Community Foundation Supports Walker School

The Dedham Savings Community Foundation has awarded grant funds to the Walker School in Needham for improvements and enhancements to their therapeutic and educational program’s student sensory room. The sensory room at Walker provides a separate space where students engage in activities to meet their sensory needs in a soothing, comforting environment. Improvements include painting and the purchase of equipment, supplies, and furnishings to refresh the space and create a calming atmosphere for students.

ABOUT WALKER SCHOOL

The Walker School is a K-8 special education school in Needham that serves over 100 students each year who are facing complex mental health, social-emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges. The Walker School serves day students as well as students who are living in Walker’s Therapeutic Residential Treatment Program. Many of the children have multiple diagnoses such as Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), mood or attachment disorders, trauma-related disorders, depression, anxiety, communication disorders, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

ABOUT DEDHAM SAVINGS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Dedham Savings Community Foundation was formed by Dedham Savings for the purpose of funding requests from community organizations which provide services to the communities that they serve. These communities generally, but not exclusively, include Dedham, Needham, Norwood, Sharon, South Boston, Walpole, and Westwood.  Typical requests are usually received from such organizations as schools, libraries, family service organizations and non-profit organizations. The Trustees of the Foundation will accept grant requests from community organizations and make awards twice a year.
