This Year’s President’s Award Winner
Since 1831, when Dedham Savings was formed as a mutual savings bank, its mission has been to serve the needs of the community. As the Bank has grown, that focus has remained in the forefront of our business strategy. Over the years, we have donated our money and time to various non-profits and community groups, but one of the ways that this community-minded focus shows itself most clearly is in the quality of our employees. The tendency to do more and be more became such an ongoing trend among our staff that Peter G. Brown, President and CEO, created the annual Ebenezer Burgess 1831 Presidents Award in 2012 so that he may shine the spotlight on some of these inspiring and deserving people.
Each year since then, much discussion and excitement ensues as to who the annual recipient will be. We talk about volunteer efforts – we talk about camaraderie, and we talk about displaying that spirit of “going above and beyond”. Through this process, just the right name invariably rises to the top of the list and an exceptional winner is chosen. 2019 was no different. The recipient earned this honor due to his unique combination of professional success and a kindness of spirit and high moral character that inspires all who have the pleasure of interacting with him.
Our recipient continuously and consistently wins top awards for the number of referrals and opened accounts in our Retail area. When the Bank sought out employees to take on the heavy task of opening our first branch in Boston, our recipient rose to the occasion. The short list of efforts that he made to bring Dedham Savings to the forefront of a busy and loyal market in South Boston includes attending street festivals, making candy bags for Halloween, delivering games to a local school, delivering food to the local Food Pantry and learning the names of every dog in the neighborhood.
Extra shifts were worked, employees’ cars were moved from their two-hour parking spots, snow was shoveled, and trash was picked up outside the branch because of an innate sense of pride and love for our Bank. It is with great honor that the 2019 Ebenezer Burgess award was presented to South Boston Assistant Branch Manager, Michael Brennan. Congratulations Michael!
