What is a Mobile Wallet & How Do I Get it?

A Mobile Wallet is a virtual payment system on a mobile device, such as a Smartphone, mobile watch or tablet that functions like a physical wallet.  When you add your credit or debit cards into your smartphone’s Wallet app, you can bypass swipes and chip-dips to make more secure transactions at retailers. No more fumbling for cards at checkout; try this simpler way to pay.

How do I Get Mobile Wallet?

Chances are, your smartphone already has a Wallet app installed. If you can’t find it, try searching for Apple Pay in the Apple Store or Google Pay in the Google Play store. Once you have the app, open it up, and follow the prompts to “+ New Payment Method.” You can add more than one card, and you can select which one will serve as your default payment method. Some apps allow you to complete this step simply by taking a picture of your card, while others ask you to enter the information manually.

How do I Use Mobile Wallet?

When inside a store, simply unlock your smartphone and hold it up to the payment terminal until you see a check mark. No more pulling out your Debit or Credit Card. While shopping online, some sites allow you to choose your Mobile Wallet as your payment option. And, you can also complete in-app purchases for things like coffee or rideshare apps. If you have your Debit Card added to your Mobile Wallet, some ATMs will also let you take cash out using the Wallet app.

Is it secure?

Mobile Wallets have special security features. When you set up your Wallet app, your account information is not stored on your device. Instead, each card is assigned a virtual card number that’s only associated with the Mobile Wallet and mobile device you use. And, if you happen to lose your phone, Mobile Wallet requires a verification process that you set up, such as a fingerprint scan.
